Locked Out Of The House On Your First Time Being Left Alone? 3 Steps That Will Get You Back Inside

Blog

If you're old enough to be left on your own while your parents are out of town, you want to make sure that you do everything right. After all, you don't want your first time left alone to be your last time. Unfortunately, issues can come up, even when you're doing your best to do everything right. One of those issues that can pop up deals with your house keys. You never know when you're going to accidentally lock yourself out of the house. If that's happened to you, you'll need to find your way back into the house as quickly as possible. If this is your first time being locked out of the house, you might not know what to do. Here are four steps you'll need to take to get yourself back into the house safely.

Try to Find an Entry Point

If you're locked out of the house, the first thing you'll need to do is try to find an entry point. The front door may be locked, but that doesn't mean all the other entry points are locked as well. Begin by going around the house and checking all the other doors and windows. You want to check the windows because you might have left one of them unlocked. If you have a doggy door, you also need to try gaining access through that. The door may be too small for you to shimmy your way through, but it might be big enough to use in another manner. Place your arm through the door as far as it will go and see if you can move it enough to reach the door knobs. If you can, unlock the door and let yourself inside.

Call a Family Member

If your attempt to find another access point failed, you'll need to try another avenue. If you have other family members in the vicinity, give them a call. You may find that your parents left a spare key with them. If they don't have a spare key to the house, they may still be helpful in getting you into the house, especially if they have a credit card on hand. You can use the credit care to try and open the door to your house. Once they get there with the credit card, carefully slip it between the door jam and the door knob. This should release the catch so you can get back inside.

Contact a Locksmith

If you've tried everything, and you're still locked outside, it's time to call a locksmith. The locksmith will come out to the house and get you back inside quickly. If your parents have phone service where they are, call them and let them know what's going on. They can call the locksmith and arrange service over the phone. Once your parents get home, talk to them about hiding a spare key somewhere on the property. That way, if you get stuck outside again, you'll be able to get back inside.

My Garage Sale Safe

I have always been a big fan of garage sales. There is just something about the ability to stop and pick up hidden treasures for an incredibly low price that always gets my blood flowing. So when I spotted a top of the line safe at a local sale for an amazingly low price, I simply could not help myself. After years of sitting in my garage unused, I decided to finally move my safe into the house. The problem was, I had forgotten the combination. Thankfully, a local locksmith was able to help me gain access to the safe. While watching the locksmith work, I was fascinated by the way he bypassed the safe's lock. Suddenly I found myself wanting to learn this skill. Throughout the course of research, I learned a lot about the profession of locksmiths. Today, I would like to share that knowledge with you.
