Preventing An Office Break-In

Blog

One of the worst things that can happen to your office is a theft. When a burglar steals some of your products and equipment that are essential to run your business, you have both a property loss and business productivity loss on your hands. One of the best ways to avoid the situation is to make sure that your office is secure to begin with; here are some ideas on how to make sure that's the case.

Take a Look at Your Entryways

The entryways must be solid and secure to prevent burglaries or to even remove the idea from a potential thief's mind. Use high quality steel or aluminum for the frame of your doors. With windows, try to get double pane glass or wire embedded material so that the windows aren't easily shattered by an intruder. Even a garage entrance to your business is important to consider, and although you want to have a lightweight garage door, you need to make sure that the frame of the door has a high quality construction so that it's not easily breakable as soon as you're not around.

Besides the door quality, locks matter a lot. Have a commercial locksmith take a look at the security available for your garage doors, entry doors, and windows. There are the typical measures, such as making sure there are deadbolts on every door. But you may also want to coordinate your security by having an electronic lock system that lets you monitor comings and goings from your building, especially at odd hours. If you have security cameras focused on your most important entryways, that's all the better for catching a person who has been snooping around your business.

Store Inventory Off Site

Another method is to simply keep your valuables away from the area where you work. Storage units are a good way to do this. Your storage center will be responsible for providing a safe facility and monitoring security. You can get commercial property insurance that includes you main business as well as a storage unit that you rent. That way, you are doubling down on preventing the loss of main business goods or supplies.

Use a Safe

Even within your building, you probably have items or documents that you don't want employees to have access to. Business safes are perfect for storing these items. Allow your locksmith to outfit you with a durable safe that is resistant to tampering and fire. For more information, contact a company like Hicks Safes & Locks Inc.

My Garage Sale Safe

I have always been a big fan of garage sales. There is just something about the ability to stop and pick up hidden treasures for an incredibly low price that always gets my blood flowing. So when I spotted a top of the line safe at a local sale for an amazingly low price, I simply could not help myself. After years of sitting in my garage unused, I decided to finally move my safe into the house. The problem was, I had forgotten the combination. Thankfully, a local locksmith was able to help me gain access to the safe. While watching the locksmith work, I was fascinated by the way he bypassed the safe's lock. Suddenly I found myself wanting to learn this skill. Throughout the course of research, I learned a lot about the profession of locksmiths. Today, I would like to share that knowledge with you.
